World War 3 or the third world war is a phenomenon that may be nearer to us than we think. The war in Syria is the most dangerous conflict faced by the world in the 21st century owing to the involvement of almost all the regional and international powers, and the rise of terrorism that has reached far beyond into Europe and America.
The Syrian War is also the cause for widespread suffering of Syrian people and their displacement in millions.
World War 3 comparison with the Syrian conflict also becomes suitable when we see the horrible results of the war which has entered its sixth year.
Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives and a sizeable portion of the Syrian population has become refugees seeking shelter in Europe. Once rich country has become a wasteland where government and rebel troops are constantly fighting each other for control of areas.
The phenomenon that renders the Syrian conflict so dangerous is that it is not an isolated war where two parties are fighting each other.
It has become an international war where there are two main sides: the regime and its allies including Iran and Russia, and the rebels and their allies including America, some European countries and the Gulf Arab states.
In the middle of these two warring factions is the most horrible phenomenon the world has ever see: Daesh. The terror group controls almost one third of the Syrian territory and has not yet been dislodged from its de-facto capital Raqqa despite combined US and Russian onslaughts.
Daesh (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) is responsible for some of the worst atrocities committed against unarmed civilians during the Syrian conflict.
World War 3 seems more plausible in the Syrian context because it contains all the ingredients that ignited the two previous great wars. Mix it with the ongoing conflicts in Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan and Libya, and you will see that there World War 3 is just around the corner.
All the countries involved in the Syrian countries have failed to realize that any change in the political system of the country must come from within the country. Only Syrian people can bring about a lasting change in Syria.
External powers with all their guns and airplanes cannot bring a lasting political change in the country. The only thing that they can do is destroy this beautiful country and its great heritage, and increase the suffering of its innocent population. This is exactly what they are doing.
