How to get EB5 Green Card
The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program offers a way for foreign nationals to obtain U.S. green cards by investing in job-creating enterprise projects in the United States that need funding, which makes it much easier to immigrate from overseas and set up a life here in America. But what exactly is the EB-5 program? And how does one go about getting their hands on an EB-5 green card? We will answer all of these questions and more below!
What is the EB-?
The EB- stands for Employment Based. The five employment-based visas categories are: EB-I, EB-II, EB-III, EB-IV, and EB-V. The “EB” in each visa category refers to the Employment Based designation of that particular visa.
The EB-I visa is for aliens with extraordinary ability in sciences, arts, education, business or athletics. The EB-II visa is for aliens with advanced degrees or exceptional ability in the sciences, arts, or business. The EB-III visa is for skilled workers and professionals. The EB-IV visa is for special immigrants, including religious workers and certain former employees of the U.S. Government abroad. The EB-V visa is for certain investors, entrepreneurs, and other workers.
EB-I visas are the most difficult to obtain – only a few hundred of these visas are given out each year. EB-II and III visas require advanced degrees or exceptional skills in high-demand areas such as technology and finance. EB-IV and V visas generally do not have requirements beyond demonstrating that one has worked for or been affiliated with the U.S. government abroad (which usually means working at an embassy).
However, there is no direct path from any employment based visa status to becoming a permanent resident through investment in America! In order to be eligible for this type of green card, you will need temporary work experience either by having previous long-term employment in the United States or by being a present employee of the company that sponsors your EB-V immigrant visa.

The EB-V immigrant investor program is a visa category that allows foreign nationals to become lawful permanent residents of the United States by investing money in a job-creating enterprise project here in America. This program was created as a way for foreign investors to immigrate from overseas and set up a life here in America while helping the U.S. economy grow through job creation.
What is an EB-5 Green Card?
An EB-V green card, also known as a lawful permanent residence status or simply a “green card,” is documentation that allows foreign nationals to live and work permanently within the United States of America without any required sponsorship by an employer or family member after their initial entry into the country. This can be issued either at time of first entering the country with temporary visa status (such as student visas or tourist visas) or once they have already established themselves in another immigration category such as one based on employment (as long there are no issues preventing them from doing so).
How to Get an EB-5 Green Card?
Step one: If you are applying for the visa through your home country’s consulate or embassy, file form DS-260 online. The second step is filling out Form I-526 after being approved by USCIS and then filing form I-485 to receive permanent residence status in the United States of America.

Step two: Fill out forms DS 260 & I -526 if applying at US Embassy/Consulate overseas OR File Forms G -1145 e c with supporting documents once the program is approved by USCIS. Once this has been completed successfully, you must fill out Form i 48 five to finalize the process.
Before receiving permanent resident status in the United States of America, the last step is filing form I-485.
