What You Should Know Before Starting Preparation for SSC Recruitment

SSC or the Staff selection commission is a government recruiting organization that holds several exams throughout the year. Through these exams, the commission selects candidates for various posts and ministries. 

Most of us aspire to get selected for such a Sarkari Naukri. Each year well above 20 lac candidates participate in these exams battling to make their way through the crowd. There are some aspects that you should consider even before you start your preparation for the exam.

Stages for the exam

The stages have changed a bit since 2020. It comprises 4 tiers. The first two tiers 1 and 2 are computer-based objective exams.

Only after the successful Sarkari result of these two can you proceed for the pen and paper tiers.

  • Tier 1- It is a 60 min exam with no sectional time limits.
  • Tier 2- This is also an objective paper. The difficulty level is higher than Tier 1. This will have 4 papers and is conducted in both Hindi and English. Each section has a time limit of 120 minutes.
  • Tier 3- To replace the former interview round, this round will test your official communication. The test will check your Essay/Precis/Letter /Application Writing skills.
  • Tier 4- After successful completion of the above stages, the shortlisted candidates need to pass this computer skill test.

Notable subject knowledge needed

  • Tier 1- The sections will include General intelligence, English, and General Awareness. Questions in quantitative aptitude will be based on mathematical operations up to 10th standard. General intelligence focuses on testing the logical abilities of the candidates here both verbal and nonverbal reasoning questions will be asked. English section will be based on grammar and comprehension.
  • Tier 2-The stage consists of 4 papers which are Quantitative Ability, English Language and Comprehension, General Studies for Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) post, Statistics for Junior. Statistical Officer (JSO) and Compiler post. The total weightage of this tier is 500 marks.
  • Tier 3- The syllabus for this will be practicing your writing skills for official purposes.
  • Tier 4 – This is a skill test that includes two tests Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) and Computer Proficiency Test (CPT).

  • Inspector of Income Tax-CBDT
  • As a Junior Statistical Officer in the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation
  • Inspector (Central Excise)- CBIC
  • Sub Inspector-Central Bureau of Investigation
  • Inspector-Central Bureau of Narcotics
  • Statistical Investigator Grade-II Registrar General of India
  • Accountant/ Junior Accountant-Other Ministry/ Departments
  • Upper Division Clerks-Government Departments
