Security filtering is important for organizations that want to ensure that users are not getting the results of the content requests that they should not have access to. To do this, SharePoint must do three things. First, the SharePoint site must write content scan data to Office 125. Index. Second, SharePoint must notify SharePoint Online records that match the scanned content on the spot. Finally, SharePoint Online must create a deep enough understanding of Active Directory local user accounts that allow you to determine what content a user has and does not have access to (based on an entry in the access control list), regardless of where the content actually resides.
