Learn What the International Baccalaureate Program Offers

The International Baccalaureate Offers an Enhanced Education

Are you the proud parent of a gifted and motivated student about to enter the all-important high school years of their education? Do you want to give them one of the best opportunities for accelerated access to quality universities all over the world?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) offers an enhanced curriculum with an international outlook. Introduced in 1968, it has since become world-renowned for offering one of the highest-quality educations.

The program is open to students between the ages of 16 and 19 and can be one of the pathways to a higher and richer education and better-quality employment.

Choosing Their Subjects

The DP program allows its students to specialize in three subjects and study them at a higher level while still maintaining their intellectual development in the other subjects required in their standard-level grades. Students enrolled in the program must choose their specializations from the core subjects of Extended Essay, a choice of two languages, Theory of Knowledge, and Creativity, Activity, and Service.

Assessment Procedures and Standards

The DP assessment procedures are used to measure the student’s mastery of advanced academic skills in fulfilling the requirements and standards of the program. These requirements include:

  • Analyzing and presenting information
  • Evaluating and constructing cogent arguments
  • Solving problems creatively

Students also have to demonstrate basic academic skills, including:

  • Understanding basic concepts
  • Applying standard methods
  • Retaining the knowledge learned

The DP program goes even further by encouraging international sensibility and intercultural skills whenever relevant and appropriate. The results of students in the DP program are determined against set standards, not by each student’s position in the overall class order.

External and Internal Assessment

External assessment is used in the form of objective and reliable examinations to obtain students results. Internal assessments from fieldwork, coursework, laboratory work for the sciences, investigation for mathematics, and artistic performances are also used to measure the student’s proficiency in various subjects.

University Applications and Admissions

A graduate of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is free to apply to any university. However, there are some top universities around the world that recognize and value the critical thinking and research skills needed to satisfy the requirements of the DP Program. Graduates of the Diploma Program are given special consideration when applying to these world-leading universities.

ISB Offers the DP Program

The International School of Bangkok is the first school in Thailand to offer the (IB) Diploma Program for its students aged 16-19. The program was created by teachers at the International School of Geneva and offers a balanced education that encourages geographical and cultural mobility and promotes international understanding.
