How To Visually Enlarge Your Bathroom
If you have a small cramped bathroom, then you probably often encounter annoyance when you and someone else from the family members may need something in this room at the same time. One of the options to solve this problem without evicting anyone from the house is to increase the bathroom at the expense of the area of another room. However, there are more affordable and less expensive ways to make your bathroom look bigger. In this article, we have gathered effective tips on how to visually enlarge your bathroom.
1. Remove excessive things
This may seem like a simple solution, but do you really need extra towel holders or a shelf on the wall? It is worth removing at least one shelf or an extra towel holder and the room will visually increase in size.
Also, pay attention to any unnecessary items that you don’t use or rarely use. Is there any clutter on the remaining storage surfaces? If yes, it’s high time to get rid of these things. A pile of objects gives the impression of clutter and enhances the feeling of a small space. Use the space rationally. You can store bottles of household chemicals under the bathroom.
2. Use transparent objects
If you need some decorative elements or furniture in the bathroom, opt for transparent things. Anything can be transparent, shower curtains, shelves, or glass shower doors. The use of transparent materials will give the bathroom lightness and airiness. In this case, it is not necessary to use glass as a material for objects, it can be acrylic or plexiglass.
3. Add mirrors
A mirror visually enlarges the space. If your bathroom has a window, place a mirror in front of it, this will help create the illusion that the walls are not so close to each other. This will expand the room.
You can also buy a floor-to-ceiling mirror. You can pave the entire wall where the sink is installed with mirrored tiles. A good effect can be achieved by installing a tall cabinet with a mirrored door in the room. Mirrors have many benefits but they need proper care. Splashes, greasy fingerprints, and other dirt will be visible on the glass surface.
4. Add light
This is more of a psychological trick, but being able to see all the angles clearly will create the impression of a larger space than it actually is. It is important that the entire room is well lit. Upgrade your bulbs and fixtures because new bulbs give a brighter light.
The white color of the walls is also beneficial not only for the visual increase of the space. Stains which remain from water drops will be invisible on white tiles. Use white or beige tiles as the main color. If you are afraid that after such a renovation the interior will become too simple, you can decorate one of the narrow walls with a contrasting color.
5. Refresh the paint
Use one color for all surfaces in your bathroom. It doesn’t matter if you use light colors, which also help to visually expand the bathroom or dramatic dark colors. But the walls, ceiling, and even some furniture elements should create a sense of a single space. The fewer objects fill this area, the better.
6. Use compact pieces of furniture and decor
Everything needs balance and if the room is small, then the objects in it should be appropriate. If you feel like your bathroom is cramped because the sink is too big or the cabinet takes up more space than you need, replace them with smaller ones. Use space efficiently. The same goes for any other items in the bathroom. This is not the cheapest way but the compact parts will give you more space and freedom of movement.
