How to Fly with Spirit Airlines Easily

Spirit Airlines

I just took a brief weekend vacation to New Orleans to visit my two-year-old daughter. We traveled with Spirit Airlines and enjoyed an enjoyable trip in general. Was it perfect?

Not by any means. But I did come away with some ideas regarding how to make flying Spirit more comfortable. Maximize comfort and convenience with Spirit Airlines seat selection.

Lower your expectations

If you are unfamiliar with Spirit, visit their website. It is a low-cost no-frills airline. Your ticket includes a seat on the plane and one personal luggage.

The flights do not provide complimentary snacks, soft chairs, or adorable little TVs in the back of each seat to keep you entertained. Spirit Airlines is meant to get you from point A to point B as quickly as necessary.

Take advantage of any available security shortcuts

Getting past airport security has had a huge impact on my overall traveling experience. Waiting in line isn’t anything I appreciate, particularly when you have a child who continues to develop patience.

The faster and easier I can reach my gate, the better. I strongly recommend implementing Spirit’s security shortcut. I bought it for security from MSY and have no regrets.

While everyone else was in the normal security line, we were directed to the first class/priority security line. We made it past immigration in just over five seconds!

Not all airports will have this option; if yours does not, check with the airport to see if there are any alternative possibilities. MCO, for example, offers MCO Reserve, a complimentary service that is comparable to Spirit’s security shortcut.

Purchase your seats and take your time boarding

Purchasing seats is one of my favorite ways to make Spirit flights more comfortable. Spirit charges an additional fee for seat selection.

But if you’re like me and care about where you sit, it can be worth the money. It may also be worthwhile if you’re traveling in a group, as Spirit cannot promise that everyone will sit together.

I decided to purchase my seats for each trip and have no regrets. Also, take your time while boarding.

If you like to pre-board, do so! But if that isn’t for you, I advocate taking your time getting on the plane with young children.

The faster you board the plane, the longer you’ll have to wait for takeoff. For children, waiting can be terrible.

Download games and movies ahead

Don’t pay for WiFi. Download whatever games, movies, or television series you want before you board the plane or arrive at the airport.

Spirit charges for wifi per gadget, which rapidly adds up. Download everything you need before you board the plane to keep everyone entertained.

Comfort: Know What to Expect

When actuality does not meet our standards, it can be extremely disappointing. I was not disappointed with Spirit because I had only heard poor reviews and had minimal expectations.

If you only buy the basic minimum (the flight), you should expect to travel in uncomfortable conditions. The normal ‘free’ seats are relatively small, with minimal legroom.

The seats don’t recline. There are no USB plugs. There are no WiFi or entertainment choices. Not even an in-flight magazine. Easily check in for your Spirit flight hassle-free. Save time and breeze through the airport with our convenient online check-in.
