The highly anticipated season has all the ingredients of the popular series. The Game of Thrones season 6 opened to great tension as the camera panned over Castle Black. The waxy face of Kit Harington is shown in a close-up confirming that he is dead.
The point has been made clear by the runners of the show so that all the fans who have been contemplating the return of this character will finally rest. Or perhaps, it is a prank that is supposed to make his return look more dramatic? We will only know in the latter parts of the show.
Then, we see Liam Cunningham’s character of Ser Davos Seaworth who was visibly shocked to learn that the Lord Commander was finally no more.
Viewers must have been equally shocked since Snow was the one who had battled the ice zombies and at this point it is almost impossible to think of anyone else who could lead the fight against the white walkers.
Game of thrones premier announcement was made the with the title ‘The Red Woman’ allowing fans to think that the magic of Melisandre might be put to use in order to bring Jon snow back to life.
Game of Thrones season 6 did have a big surprise that involved the beloved spiritualist but unfortunately it had nothing to do with bringing back to life the Lord Commander.
It is a little confusing to see Carice Van Houten transformed into an old lady. Was she in disguise? Is she actually a withered old woman? Or has she been burdened with the upsets that have befallen recently like the defeat of stannis and the death of Jon Snow?
No answers were offered as viewers were left aghast to see Melisandre remove the necklace and morph into a jaded hunched figure. It was more than enough for the viewers to see the Red lady age right in front of their eyes.
Game of Thrones season 6 did manage to kick start with a jolt which turned into a very satisfying one hour. Of course, it is too early to say whether the season will be up to the mark but the distinct touch was surely present in the highly anticipated episode.
