As fun and exciting as camping is, sometimes, we all need that little extra bit of entertainment to keep us going and energetic on our trips. Whether you’re heading on an outdoors adventure with your family, a group of buddies or solo, you need a few activities to keep you busy and occupied. Some awesome games and activities to try out are…
Orienteering
This is an absolutely fantastic way to spend a day in the great outdoors! Get into groups of three or four or round up the whole family to go on a non-competitive ramble. This is going to take a little premeditation, bring along whistles, maps, compasses and backpacks for food and water throughout the day! Orienteering is usually best saved for locations that you’re somewhat familiar with, to avoid getting lost. Always head out with multiple fully charged phones, plenty of sun cream and protective hats.
Capture the Flag
Who doesn’t love a game of Capture the Flag? It’s a total classic! This is a great way to get your family or friends bonding with the rest of the campground or your surrounding sites. Ask the kids and families around you to join in and get ready for a full afternoon of serious fun. You never know, you might make friends for life!
Tree Measuring
Tree measuring is a great way to kill time with younger children when you’re feeling too tired to do a hefty amount of running around or physical activity. Your little ones can either measure themselves against trees or do some scientific measuring (within their not so tall means) to figure out which is the tallest. It’s the simple things in life that give us the most pleasure every now and then!
Nature Watching
You’ve heard of birdwatching? Well, why not widen your scope to the whole of your natural surroundings! You and your clan can take notes, pictures, do some sketch drawings or just chat about what you’re spying on your walks, bike rides or just around the campsite. This is nice and educational.
Rock Art
Encourage your kids or your mates to go on a little hunt for a nice, evenly surfaced rock to flex your creative muscles on! Rock painting is so much fun and calming for those hot afternoons when everyone’s energy is a little low. Just be sure to pack paints and that the rocks you are selecting do not have any significance for the local area where you’re staying.
Hide and Seek
Come on, hide and seek is an unavoidable tradition when you’re looking for some easy, cheap entertainment! Playing a game of hide and seek will pass the time perfectly, and you can also combine it with eye spy if the hider is a professional.
Musical Sessions
If you’re a bit of a musician, bring along your instrument of choice to spice up evenings around the campfire! You’ll have gorgeous evenings that you’ll all remember forever.
Playing Cards
This might sound basic, but playing cards always come in handy when you’re stuck in the camper on a rainy day or for some chilled downtime with the adults. The best thing about cards is that they take up hardly any space, and they have an awful lot of playing potential!
These are some great ideas for entertaining yourself at the campgrounds, without the need for any electronics! Camping is all about connecting with the physical surroundings around you, and these camping activities are going to make the connection all the more fun!
