Interested in joining the football team? Then, you definitely need to put in the work so that you can successfully get through the tryouts!
We will now look at a couple of tips from Jeff Saboe who is the coach for the Mayville State University team (Running Backs). Read the article about Football Tryout Guidelines.
Don’t Ever Quit
If there is one attitude you need to adopt is to never quit. Even if you’re in the last place, still keep going as much and as hard as you can. According to coaches, a player who always tries his or her best is far better than a great player who easily quits.
According to Saboe, it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes on the field or even fall on your face. Keep going and complete every drill and play. Your attitude is the most important thing you have since technique and skill can be learned over time.
Develop A Short Memory
When tryouts have started and you find yourself making simple mistakes such as missing a goal or not quite catching the ball, simply forget about it.
The truth is, just about everyone makes simple mistakes while playing sports and this include players in middle school as well paid professionals. All because you made one mistake, don’t dwell on it so much that it turns into even more mistakes. Simply forget about the little mistakes and keep going.
Train
Ryan at ATS.io says It is no secret that the most amazing players in the game didn’t become successful overnight. For example, Peyton Manning didn’t become the successful quarterback that he is in a few days or even months. He trained for many years before he became famous. So, you simply won’t become successful overnight, especially if you spend all your time relaxing, watching TV etc. You need to put in the work and build your skills by training regularly.
You should also skip snacks and candies and eat more protein and vegetables. Working on your cardio by running is also a great idea as well as lifting weights. Once you do, you will find tryout day to go much smoother.
Listen
Listening carefully is not just meant for school but also while you’re at tryouts. You need to listen so that you can learn important skills and plays. If you fail to listen to your coach, then you’ll definitely have problems.
It doesn’t matter whether its not your drill, you should still be paying attention. This will let the coaches know that you pay attention and are focused. Never talk while the coaches are speaking and save the chit chat during water breaks or at the end of tryouts.
