Though they may sound the same, identification and authentication come with different definitions. Identification of the person, answers the question of who that person is, while authentication confirms the identity of the person, checking if that person is what he is claiming to be. Both identification and authentication help the face recognition technology in identifying whether the scanned image of the person has a high approximate ratio to the picture available in the system or not.
