This Christmas will feel different for a lot of reasons. No one knows what kind of Christmas shopping will happen in the months leading up to it, and no one knows what’s safe as a Christmas celebration given the pandemic the world is currently facing. What we know, however, is that Christmas will be celebrated, one way or another.
This might be the best time for you to start learning about makeup to flaunt on the festive season. Here are some tips to get you started:
Focus on eyeshadow shimmers
With the face mask covering half of your face, all the work you put into your lipstick and contour might not easily be noticeable. It will make more impact if your eyes pack a punch, and during the Christmas season, shimmery eyeshadow is pretty much mandatory. Get your golds and pinks with a little bit of shimmer to them, and throw in a little green or silver for added fun. Experiment with your eyeliner as well–it doesn’t need to be glimmery, but you can go with a festive color such as blue or red to get into that celebratory mood.
Wear your mask as a part of your makeup
Before the pandemic, there were makeup tips for people wearing glasses to make sure that the effort they put into their eye makeup will not simply be covered by their spectacles. Now, in the new normal, a face mask is an essential when going out and socializing. Incidentally, going out and socializing also usually give you a reason to go all out on your makeup.
Given that, it’s important to learn to work with your face mask instead of ignoring it. Choose your lippie carefully so that it does not transfer to your face mask when you wear it, and apply sunscreen and other Korean skin care products more on the exposed areas. For the areas that will be covered by your face mask, you still need moisturization, but you don’t need as much foundation. You do need setting powder, however, to make sure that the contact with the face mask will not remove the product you meticulously applied.
Apply Makeup on Your Hair
Glitters and bold eyeshadow can transform a regular look into a festive one. You don’t need to buy new products if you’re only wearing the look for one day, so go ahead and repurpose the shimmery eyeshadow you haven’t had the chance to wear in months due to the quarantine. You can also cop some of the trendiest hairstyles–space buns, perhaps?–and make them go with your makeup and outfit. Turn to your favorite Instagram influencers for more ideas on the whole look.
With so many things happening with the world, this might be the most important Christmas celebration we’ll ever have. During the festive season, remind yourself that there are still good things to look forward to. Dress up and do your makeup to make the Christmas season as fun and festive as possible, and go even harder on New Year’s Eve.
