4 Perks of Being the Modern Day Influencer

Become an influencer – The business domain has enhanced beyond anyone’s imagination in contemporary times. New areas and sectors are surfacing every year that are staggeringly profitable.

Upon the invention of social media, one could not have deemed that it would turn out to be the most sought after business opportunity for the users.

For people born in the 90s, do you remember the days of Orkut?

I certainly do. The count of scarps, which was the term used for chats that were available for your friends to read, was the only aspect the users focused on. I still remember I had over 3000 scarps before I switched to Facebook, now I have about half the number of friends, and my chats are private as they should be.

My point is that the advent of Facebook, YouTube and Instagram is responsible for the emergence of the influencer. Before them, social media only provided connectivity.

So, who is an influencer? It is a person whose business is to post on social media and accumulate a high number of following. Sounds intriguing, right?

become an influencer

Here are five advantages of being an influencer that will make you in awe of this business endeavour.

  1. You Can Be Your True Self

Social media is one platform that allows you to be yourself. Although you might get criticism and many might even shame you, nobody can stop you.

And yes, the people who would love you for your willingness to show your true self will always be far higher than the haters.

Nabela Noor is an Instagrammer, with 1.4 million followers. She is a Bangladeshi-American who loves that she has more curves than the average woman on the planet.

People have hated her from day one,

they called her fat;

they called her ugly;

some even went to say she resembles a pig.

Despite the hate, she carried on.

She once posted a video, wherein she had all three of these names written on her face with a colour corrector and covered everything up with makeup. And she called herself beautifully, and I think she is.

There are also a number of men on social media who wear makeup because they like it. They have nail extensions and they wear dresses. And I respect each one of them.

This kind of outlet is unfound anywhere else. All other businesses consider it a taboo and would never have any room for it. Can you possibly tell me that this isn’t the great benefit of all time?

  1. Get the Highest Degree of Exposure

Influencers can connect with a broader audience than any business that is not international can.

I am from Southampton, and I follow influencers from Hong Kong, Canada, USA, and Russia and basically from all across the world.

It is because social media is global. Influencers know this and can capitalise on this fact.

For instance,

ABG or Asian Baby Girl is trend popular amongst the women staying in America, but have an Asian descent.

The popularity of this trend made influencers try it out for themselves.

Now, the Asian people would watch it, since they can relate to it. Americans will watch it because it is happening in their country. And the rest of us will watch it because it is different.

Now, do you get what I meant by global exposure?

  1. Get Free Stuff

Influencers have a lot of influence and persuasive power over their followers. Perhaps that is why they are called influencers.

They may have problems in their lives, but they only tend to post perfection on their social media. Watching perfection daily will make anyone want to crave it.

Therefore, when an influencer posts about a product that they use, their followers would also want to try it out.

Krystal Sutherland, or as her instagram account says @krystalclearmakeup, is often seen posting videos about the Arctic Fox Hair Color.

Her followers, who admire her pink and blue hair, would use that colour to change the way their hair looks. So, more sales for the hair colour.

Now, the company would not only have given her the colour for free, but she also would have earned an amount for posting about them.

Therefore, to gain the attention of the followers of these influencers, companies provide them free sample of their products before they are released and even pay them to do a review upon using the free product.

There are restaurants and club worldwide that do not ask the influencers to pay the bill but to tag their establishment on the post.

  1. Build Your Brand

Last but not least, is the fact that an influencer can make his brand. However, this could only happen when the influencer has a significant proportion of followers.

Jeffree Star is a paradigm in this case. He has over 18 million subscribers on YouTube and about 16 million followers on Instagram.

After faring well with just being a makeup guru on social media, in the year 2014, he decided to launch his brand, Jeffree Star Cosmetics.

His latest release The Cremated Palette has been a success much like his previous palettes including Bloodlust and Conspiracy.

His YouTube video about the same has garnered over 7 million views in just 4 days.

There are so many other examples of influencers becoming a brand, with some delving into makeup and clothing.

Michelle Choi’s Little Puffy merchandise is something I ordered because I love her and she ships to the UK.

Winding Up

I would want to end by saying something that may seem slightly contradicting. I know you guys must think that being an influencer is a great business idea and it is, but it needs a lot of work and patience.

People don’t just become an influencer overnight. They work for years and years to make their follower’s count become hundreds and thousands.

They overcome the unstable financial income with debt like very bad credit loans from direct lenders found in the UK because just the influencing is not paying the bills.

So yes, although their life seems pretty straightforward and luxurious, it only became that way because they endured the rough patches with the same ease.
