Stay healthy while traveling – If you’re excited about finally traveling this summer, you’re not alone. Reports say record numbers of people plan on getting away this season, so you might want to plan soon. Since you’ve waited so long to make travel a reality, the last thing you want is to get sick while you’re away. If you’re a female traveler that’s heading off by yourself, or with a group of your besties, here are several ways you can stay healthy while traveling this summer.
Get Plenty of Rest
It’s hard to get any sleep when you’re wired-up about a trip, but traveling is one occasion when you need to pay attention to this advice. If you’ve got a flight that leaves first thing in the morning, get your bags packed as soon as you can so you can turn in early. Not getting enough sleep will sap you of the energy you need before you even reach your destination. If your trip involves visiting several countries, make sure you plan relaxation into your itinerary.
Watch What You Eat
One of the best parts of travel is getting to try local dishes. However, when visiting a remote country, make sure your foods are cooked thoroughly. If you’re staying at an all-inclusive resort, try to steer clear of overindulging. Also, when you’re traveling through airports, it can be tempting to nosh on fast food, or sweet coffee drinks and pastry. This could sabotage your diet, not to mention the relationship between sugar and hot flashes could make you uncomfortable and irritable.
Pack a Medicine Kit
Before you hit the road, always pack a small medicine kit. Besides any prescription medications, make sure you take pills such as aspirin, ibuprofen, motion sickness remedies and an anti-diarrheal. A good antibacterial ointment is a good idea in case of minor injuries and always pack bandages in the event you get a blister. Taking a medicine kit is always a good idea because not all countries sell your favorite name-brand meds. You also don’t want to find yourself without pain relievers on a long flight.
Plan Physical Activities
If you exercise regularly, don’t let your vacation get in the way of your routine. This doesn’t mean you can’t take a couple of days to lay on the beach, but traveling presents an opportunity for activities you don’t normally get to try. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to surf, now’s the time! Other interesting things you can try are ziplining and renting a bike. If you walk for fitness at home, keep it up while you’re away. There’s no better way to see a new place than by walking or hiking.
Stay Hydrated
You know how important it is to stay hydrated, and traveling is no exception. Women have special needs when it comes to hydration as it helps beat the bloating that so many experience, but it also prevents heat exhaustion. One thing you don’t want while you’re traveling is to get dehydrated and become nauseated. If you’re traveling abroad, find out if the tap water is safe or if you need to buy bottled water. It’s important to stay hydrated when you’re flying, too, as the cabin air is extremely dry.
Slather on Sunscreen
You’ve heard it a million times before, but don’t forget your sunscreen! You should already be wearing sunscreen every day no matter where you live, and it’s especially important if you’re visiting the tropics or a high altitude. You already know that wearing sunscreen prevents skin cancer, but it also halts fine lines and wrinkles, and who needs
those? By simply applying sunscreen every day, you can enjoy softer, younger-looking skin for many years.
If you’re a woman heading off for a well-deserved vacation this summer, it’s important to stay as healthy as possible while you’re away. By watching what you eat, getting plenty of rest and staying hydrated, your vacation will be all you hoped it would be!
