3 Phase Bridge Rectifier and Different Way of Functions

Residential houses, motor controllers or modulation process have AC and the 3 phase bridge rectifier is used in the conversion of the power to the rectified DC power supply. A bridge rectifier is commonly used for electronic power supplies.

Random flow of electricity fluctuates very often so it is necessary to arrange a rectifier circuit so that the output voltage can be steady. The high flow of electricity will damage the circuit and the appliances at a certain point, so to develop a regular distribution of electricity the 3 phase bridge rectifier is attached.

3 phase bridge rectifier

Uncontrolled 3 Phase Bridge Rectifier

The uncontrolled 3 phase bridge rectifier has six diodes along with the 6 number of pulse, so it is also known as the six pulse bridge. The positive and negative voltage supply is present in the rectifiers that are operated, as the centre point of the rectifier on the isolated potential reference that is opposite to the centre point of the transformer that has a difference while forming a triangular common-mode voltage. This is the main reason that the two centers are not connected in any situation or else high chances of short circuits can flow.

If the secondary winding of the transformer is electrically isolated from the mains voltage, the earthing of the centre point of the bridge is possible, powered by the transformer.

The Benefit of Choke Input Filter

The rectified waveform of the 3 phase bridge rectifier can be put into a choke input filter. The main advantage of the current waveform is the smooth flow of electricity in a particular way throughout the cycle. No, chances of lifting the pulses at peaks of AC voltage each half as in a capacitor input filter.

Reduce the peak voltage and high available voltage, the inductors require cores of iron or other magnetic substances for the conversion of the electricity.

So, the 3 phase bridge rectifier is used in industries due to the high power applications. While in residential apartments or complex single-phase rectifiers are used. Thyristors are one of the commonly used devices instead of diodes to create a circuit that regulates the voltage released.

As discussed earlier, thyristors are used in place of diodes that reduce the output voltages. The rectifier drops down the part of the input voltage, the silicon devices enable in the drop of the voltages. If the current flow is on high frequency then the waveforms are distorted in other ways.

Smoothing of The Current Flow by Three-Phase Bridge

A constant flow of the current or voltage is avoided due to the flow of the half-wave and full-wave is delivered in different directions. In case of a half-wave rectifier, the large AC ripple voltage is present while in case of the full-wave rectifier the entire process doubles. Multiple components are used by the smoothing filters to utilize and reduce the ripple voltage to an optimum level by the circuit.

Different Types of Rectification Technologies in Three-Phase Bridge Rectifier

Electromechanical is tube rectifiers and the power conversion devices are electro-mechanical. High maintenance required and is very noisy.

The synchronous rectifier consists of motor driving that spins in time with the AC frequency and reverses periodically as the sinusoidal current goes to zero crossings.

A vibrating rectifier is created by the AC electromagnet that causes resonance or produces an alternating magnetic field through vibration. It is used in low power devices such as battery chargers, to rectify the low voltage.
